Quality measurement of analog and digital terrestrial television broadcasting

This bachelor‘s thesis deals with the description of basic features of the analog and digital television broadcasting and suggestion of a method for objective video quality evaluation at both broadcasting types. The base of this thesis is description of picture broadcast technology in analog and digital form. Also principles of some video quality evaluation metrics are described. In this thesis, a method for video quality comparison is suggested, including a verifying of this method. According to this method, sequences at changing broadcasting conditions were recorded for both broadcasting types. The quality factors of these sequences were computed and on the basis of these factors, the analog and digital TV broadcasting were compared.
Twitter Connection with a TV Broadcast

This master thesis focuses on the possible connection between the digital television broadcasting DVB and the Twitter social network. The target platform is the Hybrid Broadcast Broadband TV platform, which combines television broadcasting with a data received from broadband. The created system is composed of a HbbTV application and a server, that connects the application with the Twitter and searchs for additional data about the current video content. Usage of the resulting solution in real television broadcasting could potentially increase the amound of tweets related to the television broadcasting, increase the knowledge about HbbTV technology and attrack young generation of viewers. All that can result into slight increased number of viewers.
Application server for Hybrid Broadcast Broadband TV

This diploma thesis focuses on the additional services transmitted in conjunction with television broadcast. The first part presents the background research in the evolution of these technologies. In the second part the step-by-step creation of a sample application based on the latest HbbTV platform is dealt with. Finally, the described application demonstrates the streaming possibilities of audiovisual content on the TV screen.
Database of Czechoslovakian Television Broadcasting

This thesis describes the process of creating a Czechoslovak Television broadcasting database using optical character recognition technology. The aim of the work is to create a database that can be accessed through a simple web interface, in which it will be possible to browse individual shows, their descriptions and to search among the shows. Searching will also be possible by people involved in the shows. Tesseract was used as the optical character recognition engine, obtained shows were entered into a SQLite database and Flask was used for the web interface. Scanned pages of Týdeník Československé televize were used as source materials and the years from 1966 to 1992 were processed. The results of the work give users an insight into the history of television broadcasting in Czechoslovakia and can be used, for example, for the purposes of historians.

Current Issues of Legal Regulation of Audiovisual Media Services Abstract The dissertation thesis deals with the issue of legal regulation of audiovisual media services in the Czech Republic, with regard to challenges topically facing the legal regulation that concurrently should be addressed, as well as with regard to effects that such legal regulation itself has on audiovisual media services. The topic is looked at from an administrative law perspective. Following a historical-legal excursus and an excursus about means of receiving television broadcasts and other technological aspects, the dissertation thesis primarily addresses the current regulation. It contains a definition of the concept of audiovisual media services, including distinction between television broadcasting (linear services) and audiovisual media services on demand (non-linear services) and comparison thereof with video-sharing platform services. Army and Security: The Role of Czechoslovak Television's Army, Security and Military Ability Department between 1958 and 1990

This diploma thesis deals with the history and functioning of Czechoslovak Television's Army, Security and Military Ability Department in the years 1958-1990. The author first introduces the reader to the historical context and maps the changes that Czechoslovak Television went through in connection with political situation, with an emphasis on the period of the Prague Spring, August 1968, and the subsequent onset of normalization. This part of the thesis also introduces readers to the position of the media in the political mechanism of Czechoslovakia and its interventions in the functioning of the media. The thesis also deals in detail with the Television's Army, Security and Military Ability Department itself, its main tasks, history and contractually secured connection to the Federal Ministry of the Interior and the Federal Ministry of Defence. In this part of the thesis, the method of department's financing and organizational structure are also described, including the tasks of employees and the editor-in-chief Miloslav Broumský. Masters of Communication. The profession of Television Program Announcers

This diploma thesis Masters of Communication. The profession of Television Program Announcers deals with the origins, formation and reflection of the professional activity of television program announcers who worked in Czechoslovak and later Czech Television from 1956 to 2005. The thesis tries to reveal what factors influenced the creation, institutionalization and subsequent course of this now extinct profession. The author proceeds from a theoretical framework devoted to the communication situation of the television and definition of the communication role of the television announcers. The oral history method was used for the processing of the presented diploma thesis, in the framework of which interviews were conducted with four contemporary witnesses from the ranks of television program announcers of the time. Thanks to this method, the reflection of professional activity based on the memories of witnesses is discussed in the thesis. In addition, period documents obtained from the Archive and program funds as well as the File Archive of the Czech Television were used in order to grasp the historical-contemporary context that influenced the practice of this profession.
Shifting Behaviour of Czech TV Viewers in Context of Rising VOD Platforms

Television as a medium has demonstrated dominant status since its establishment. However, the consumption of audiovisual content is shifting towards new possibilities. Digitalization has led not only to the expansion and differentiation of the television market, but also to changes in the consumption of audiovisual content and consumer habits. Television broadcasting has no longer faced competition only from other television companies, but also from the internet and streaming service providers. The aim of the thesis was to explore how the behavior of Czech viewers has changed in the context of strengthening VOD (video on demand) platforms, which allow consumers to watch audiovisual content of their own choice without time constraints. The thesis focused on answering the following research questions: How has the behavior of Czech television viewers changed in the context of strengthening VOD platforms? Why people do (or do not) own televisions? What are the reasons of why television broadcasting is (or is not) attractive? Do VOD platforms have disadvantages? What attracts viewers to using VOD platforms? Where do people get their news from? In what direction should linear television broadcasting move in the future? Tranformation of czech television journalism in the show Interview ČT24

The diploma thesis with the title 'The Transformation of Czech television journalism in a broadcast Interview ČT24' deals with the analysis of the broadcast Interview ČT 24 from the beginning of the show in 2006 until 2021. In the theoretical part, text will define the basic differences between news and journalism. Internet journalism, as another important player in the media field, is further analyzed in theory. The diploma thesis will also present the specifics of a television journalistic interview, history of television journalism and try to put the show into the context of television broadcasting. The core of the work will be a qualitative analysis of formal and contect changes with emphasis on moderation, visual and technical change and selection of individual guests and topics. From 2006 to the present, many presenters moderated this broadcasting. The thesis will be divided into several stages according to the presenter. Each of the stages will be subject to the analysis.
